Vinicius declined an earlier extension offer from Madrid in September, believing he might land a more lucrative contract if he continued to perform on the field. However, Real Madrid began talks with the Brazilian's representation in 2025 after learning of his meeting with Saudi authorities about a possible move to the Middle East. It is claimed that Los Blancos wanted to postpone negotiations until the conclusion of the season, but Vinicius' rising desire has hastened the process.

According to Cadena Ser, one of the biggest sticking points in the negotiations is Vinicius' desire for a greater wage than Mbappe, who makes €15 million per year (£12.50 million/$15.76 million). Currently, the left-winger gets a comparable salary to the French forward, but his reps feel he deserves a larger raise considering his services to the squad. His side is pressing for a large compensation hike, ensuring that he makes more than €25 million (£21 million/$26.26 million) every year. Furthermore, Real Madrid must match or come close to the rich offer Vinicius received from Saudi Arabia, where he is reportedly promised a five-year contract of €1 billion (£832.2 million/$1.05).

Real Madrid have showed little interest in agreeing to these stipulations, making a move to Saudi Arabia more likely. According to reports, Vinicius would refuse any offer less than €20 million (£17 million/$21 million) a year, further complicating the issue.

While Saudi Arabia's financial package is clearly appealing, insiders say Vinicius' primary concern is not only money, but also the overall competitiveness of the Saudi Pro League. Another significant inducement apparently promised is a unique ambassadorial position for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Saudi Arabia.

Vinicius and his representatives have set high expectations for any prospective renewal. Given the financial constraints in European football compared to the spectacular sums available in Saudi Arabia, Real Madrid may struggle to match the offers on the table. However, with the 24-year-old's wish to remain in Spain, these requests might be a good beginning point for discussions. It remains to be seen if Madrid will be able to strike an agreement, but one thing is certain: Florentino Perez's contract will be tough to renew.
