Inter Miami Sign Ríos Novo Permanently, Add Barraza, and Loan Avilés to CF Montréal

‎Inter Miami CF have completed several roster adjustments by adding Rocco Ríos Novo and Luis Barraza on full-time contracts, while releasing experienced goalkeeper Óscar Ustari. In a separate transaction, defender Tomás Avilés will continue his development with CF Montréal on loan.

‎Ríos Novo earned his permanent stay after playing a decisive role in Inter Miami’s historic 2025 season. He was ever-present during the club’s playoff run, starting each postseason match and producing two shutouts in crucial encounters. Over the entire year, he appeared 19 times and recorded five clean sheets.

‎Now, he is expected to provide support behind Dayne St. Clair, who arrives as the league’s 2025 Goalkeeper of the Year, giving Miami a strong goalkeeping partnership heading into the new campaign.

‎Luis Barraza’s arrival further strengthens the position. The former D.C. United shot-stopper featured in 24 games last season and registered four clean sheets. His background spans MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, and the USL Championship, and he brings silverware with him after winning the MLS Cup in 2021 and the Campeones Cup in 2022.

‎Ustari’s exit marks the end of his time in Miami. While the club have yet to formally announce the decision, reports indicate the outcome has been settled. The 39-year-old has not been seen in recent training sessions and was omitted from Mascherano’s traveling squad for the friendly against Alianza Lima.

‎Defensive changes are also underway, with Tomás Avilés preparing to join CF Montréal on a loan that includes a purchase option. The Argentine center back is expected to benefit from increased playing time in a new environment.

‎For Montréal, the deal brings in a highly regarded 21-year-old who entered MLS with notable promise. For Avilés, it offers a fresh opportunity to establish himself. Inter Miami, meanwhile, gain flexibility by clearing space within their U-22 Initiative group.
