Manchester United Hit by Major Blow as Patrick Dorgu Faces 10-Week Injury Layoff
Manchester United’s growing momentum under Michael Carrick has been interrupted by news that Patrick Dorgu will spend close to 10 weeks on the sidelines. The Danish winger sustained a hamstring injury during Sunday’s thrilling win over Arsenal, a match that had showcased his outstanding recent form.

The 21-year-old had earlier produced a moment of brilliance, striking a superb half-volley from distance to help secure the three points at the Emirates. His afternoon ended in frustration when he broke into a sprint late in the game and was forced to stop, clutching his leg.
Reports indicate the setback is more serious than originally believed. While United are still finalizing the diagnosis before confirming a precise recovery schedule, the medical staff expect Dorgu to be unavailable for roughly 10 weeks.
Immediately after the match, Carrick had downplayed the incident, suggesting the winger might only have been suffering from cramp due to the demanding nature of the contest. Further assessments later confirmed a muscular injury that will keep the player out until the spring.
The absence is particularly cruel given Dorgu’s resurgence following Amorim’s departure. Once deployed mainly as a wing-back, his attacking freedom was limited. Under Carrick, he has been shifted higher up the pitch as a left-sided winger, a move that has unlocked his attacking qualities.
The results were instant. Dorgu found the net in consecutive victories over Manchester City and Arsenal, emerging as a key figure in United’s revival. Across 22 league outings, he has contributed three goals and three assists, underlining his importance to the system.
With the projected recovery period, Dorgu is expected to miss eight upcoming fixtures across competitions. February and March are set to pass without him, leaving Carrick to adjust his attacking plans during a critical phase of the season.
United are tentatively aiming for the Leeds United fixture on April 11 as the winger’s return date. Even then, regaining full sharpness for the final stretch will be a demanding task after such a prolonged layoff.
The blow adds to existing fitness problems at the club. Centre-back Matthijs de Ligt remains unavailable after sitting out 11 matches with a back injury, further limiting Carrick’s options during his interim spell.
Since arriving from Lecce last February in a £25 million deal, Dorgu has featured 44 times for United. His adaptability has made him a valuable asset, and his recent displays suggested he was finally settling into his ideal role. For now, however, his focus turns to rehabilitation as United attempt to cope without one of their brightest attacking outlets.
