Mbappe Defends Vinicius and Bellingham After Furious Bernabeu Boos Rock Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappe has come to the defence of his Real Madrid team-mates Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham following harsh criticism from the Bernabeu crowd. The legendary former midfielder returned to Madrid in the summer of 2025 but remained in charge for only seven months. Alonso’s time ended abruptly after disagreements with senior figures in a squad packed with star names, as internal tension spilled into public view.
Vinicius, Bellingham and Federico Valverde were among those reported to have clashed with Alonso, a coach unwilling to bend to player influence. That friction translated into whistles from the stands during a 2-0 victory that moved Madrid within touching distance of rivals Barcelona at the top of the table.
While Mbappe escaped criticism as he continued his recovery from injury, the French forward admitted he understands fan frustration. However, he insisted that blame should never be aimed at individuals.
Speaking ahead of a Champions League clash with former club Monaco at the Bernabeu, Mbappe explained that whistling is part of football culture when performances fall short. Yet he stressed that criticism should be collective rather than directed at specific players.
He emphasized that the team shares responsibility for poor results and expressed confidence that performances would improve. According to Mbappe, the anger of the supporters does not reflect hostility, but disappointment that can be turned into backing once results improve.
Vinicius, who has endured jeers in three consecutive home matches, received strong backing from Mbappe. The forward said the Brazilian should not shoulder blame alone and reminded fans that setbacks belong to the entire squad.
Mbappe also revealed his personal support for Vinicius, saying his priority is to protect him during difficult moments. He described Vinicius as both an exceptional footballer and a valued friend, insisting that when the winger feels supported, his impact on the pitch transforms.
Turning his attention to Bellingham, Mbappe rejected doubts surrounding the England international. He described the midfielder as one of the world’s best when fully fit and reminded supporters that form fluctuations are part of football.
Mbappe concluded by urging unity as Real Madrid prepare for a crucial Champions League stretch. Sitting seventh in the standings with two matches left to secure automatic qualification, the club must rally together following Alonso’s dismissal, with Alvaro Arbeloa currently overseeing first-team duties.
