Barcelona Target Chelsea Winger Pedro Neto Ahead of Summer Transfer Window

Barcelona are weighing up a potential move for Chelsea winger Pedro Neto as they prepare for the upcoming summer transfer window. The Catalan side views the Portuguese international as a valuable option to strengthen Hansi Flick’s attacking choices. Although talks have not begun, the club believes its strong working relationship with agent Jorge Mendes could help if negotiations develop.

The club’s interest arrives despite the impressive output of their current wide players. Lamine Yamal and Raphinha have been among Europe’s most productive wingers this season, combining for 34 goals across competitions. Even so, Barcelona are looking to deepen their options on the flanks.

Reports from Mundo Deportivo indicate that Neto is considered a strong candidate because of his adaptability across the front line. The 26-year-old can operate on either wing and is also capable of playing as a false nine. Since moving to Chelsea in 2024 for €60 million, his time in London has been shaped by strong competition for places. Players such as Estevao, Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens have contributed to a crowded attacking lineup.

Barcelona’s sporting director Deco is believed to be surveying the market for a player capable of raising the level of competition within the squad. Neto’s experience and performances in the Premier League have reportedly made him an appealing option for the club’s decision-makers.

A possible transfer could also be influenced by Mendes, whose connections with both Deco and Barcelona’s leadership remain strong. While Neto’s technical qualities are viewed positively, his recent disciplinary incidents in England have drawn attention. Officials accused the forward of using abusive language after receiving a red card, and he was also involved in a tense moment with a ball boy during a match against Paris Saint-Germain. The situation later cooled when he apologised by giving the ball boy his shirt.

Despite those episodes, Barcelona believe his skill set would add valuable tactical variety to Flick’s system.

Financial considerations remain a key factor in any decision. Barcelona must operate within La Liga’s strict salary regulations and are already evaluating other attacking options. One possibility includes securing Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal after his loan spell, with the forward reportedly available for €30 million. The club also maintains interest in Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.

Neto’s contract is said to include a clause that could allow him to leave if he seeks a new challenge. However, Chelsea would likely expect a sizeable fee after their recent investment, forcing Barcelona to carefully assess whether the Portuguese winger offers the best value among their targets.

The closing months of the season could be decisive for both the player and the club. Neto will need consistent playing time within Chelsea’s competitive attack to maintain his standing and value, while Barcelona will continue evaluating their own squad options. Rashford’s performances during this period could also influence the club’s transfer priorities.

As the summer window approaches, Barcelona are expected to keep a close watch on Neto’s performances, discipline and fitness while finalising their plans for a potentially significant transfer period.
