Chelsea have made a stunning decision as Enzo Fernández has been removed from the squad with immediate effect. Manager Liam Rosenior confirmed the development during a Friday press conference, citing the midfielder’s connection to Real Madrid as the primary reason.

Fernández, who typically serves as vice-captain, recently stepped in as captain due to Reece James’ injury. Despite being handed the armband for the last two fixtures, his performances in that leadership role did not meet expectations.

The situation escalated after Chelsea’s heavy 8-2 aggregate defeat to PSG. Speaking to ESPN Argentina, Fernández raised eyebrows when discussing his future, admitting uncertainty and suggesting he would welcome the idea of living in Madrid.

Reports from The Telegraph further intensified the issue, revealing that the Argentine had repeatedly criticized teammates during the team’s poor spell. These actions reportedly caused frustration within the squad, especially at a stage of the season where cohesion is considered essential.

Rosenior has now taken decisive action. He confirmed that Fernández will not feature in upcoming matches against Port Vale and Manchester City, stating that the player had gone too far and disciplinary measures were necessary.

Chelsea are set to face Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, followed by a Premier League clash against Manchester City the next week.
